The 230 grain .30 cal MatchKing is built around long-range precision work, with a 27 caliber elongated ogive and a pointed meplat to help raise ballistic coefficient. Sierra also uses a bearing surface to ogive junction cut at the same 1.5 degree angle found in many match rifle chamber throats, which is there to support bullet-to-bore alignment.
This bullet is not set up as a general hunting bullet. Sierra says MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications, and that their design does not give the same reliable explosive expansion on varmints as Hornet Blitz or Varminter bullets.
