Twenty inches of barrel and a 10-round magazine make this .45 Colt lever gun easy to place on the line for cowboy action or a long session with traditional iron sights. The Short Rifle format keeps the classic Model 1873 profile, but it is set up as a working rifle, not just a wall hanger.
The steel color case hardened receiver is paired with a Grade III/IV walnut straight grip stock in a satin oil finish, along with a classic rifle-style forearm and forearm cap. Traditional sights include a semi-buckhorn rear and Marble Arms gold bead front, and the receiver top tang is drilled and tapped for an optional tang-mounted rear sight. Winchester also calls out a steel loading gate and a crescent buttplate that settles into the shoulder from different shooting positions.
